Tafseer Tafheem-ul-Quran by Syed Abu-al-A'la Maududi. (87:14) He who purified himself shall prosper, *13. Qad aflaha man tazakkaa. *13) "Who purified himself": who affirmed the faith giving up disbelief and polytheism, adopted good morals giving up evil morals, and performed good deeds giving up evil deeds.
1. وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحٰىهَاۖ. Wasy-syamsi wa duhaha. "Demi matahari dan sinarnya pada pagi hari." 2. وَالْقَمَرِ اِذَا تَلٰىهَاۖ. Wal-qamari iza talaha. "Demi bulan apabila mengiringinya." 3. وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا جَلّٰىهَاۖ. Wan-nahari iza jallaha. "Demi siang apabila menampakkannya." 4. وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰىهَاۖ. Wal-laili iza yagsyaha.

Qad afla h a man tazakk a. He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself. 87:15. وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ. Wa th akara isma rabbihi fa s all a. And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. 87:16. بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا. Bal tuthiroona al h ay a ta a l dduny a. But you prefer the worldly life, 87:17.
